Paul has had a varied career that has included roles in visual arts, arts development, youth arts and the hip-hop music industry.
Between 2006 and 2021 Paul’s work focused on the dance sector across roles in organisational leadership, and as a producer and programmer.
Previous roles include Director of Programming and Producing at DanceXchange and International Dance Festival Birmingham; Associate Director at Greenwich Dance and Dance4; Interim Administrative Director at The Place; and Interim Artistic Director at Yorkshire Dance.
As a freelancer he has initiated and worked on projects as a coach, dramaturg and consultant with a range of artists in the dance, theatre and live art sectors, as well as organisations including The Royal Court Theatre, The Place, Arts Council England and The Jerwood Charitable Foundation.
He is a board member of the Bristol-based Action Hero, and is chair of Birmingham’s Fierce Festival.
Paul joined Creative Scotland in 2018, initially as Head of Dance, and has been Interim Director of Arts since 2021.
Paul is a wheelchair user and, alongside his professional interests across the cultural sector, maintains strong personal interest in social justice issues and in small-scale ethical production in the fashion industry.
